ok. fucker keeps overheating instantly. we took her all apart to check the water pump... everthing seems fine. we noticed under one of the intake flanges that a oil injector line was singed and closed off to the one cylinder. also underneath that we noticed what looks to be a hose missing coming off the block. the other 2 go to the fuel pump. does the other one need a hose with it blocked off? my father seems to think this will make it airbound and overheat. if this is not the problem we are thinking crankcase seal? anybody have any ideas? beerchug2.gif <oh yeah! snow coming wfo! right in our back yards!

well if you are not using the vacume line it should be blocked off. beerchug2.gif Is it overflowing like 1 mile up the trail?

yeah it boils right up! about a mile down the lake. beerchug.gif would it make a huge difference?

yeah it is bro. beerchug.gif

dude.. go to brownsleisureworld.com and look up the schematics for that sled. will tell you if your missing a hose or not. is it burning antifreeze? (the sled smoke out the exhaust alot more than normal)

can't believe you didn't pop a piston with that oil line burnt up. bugeyes.gif

the caps on the coolant bottle go bad. also might need a thermostat?

the schematics only show the blow up of parts. i can't find anything that would show a hose connected.

no its not burning antifreeze. it just boils up overflows and the temp light comes on. once the temp light comes on we shut her down. and we didn't pop the piston --- hopefully---- because we put oil in the gas for the piston to break in. beerchug.gif i just want my old man to have one good ride on his sled this year.

it stays pressurized. and we took out the thermostat completely to see if that made a difference. seems to be in good working order. i just hope its not the crank seal. (need a little smiley praying)

my thundercat had the same prob. beerchug2.gif It might not be overheating like catman said it was the bottle. Where it seals to the cap it was all wore out.

no real experience with the T Cat, but i would replace the thermostat and the cap. I believe mine overheated yrs ago due to a warn out cap.

it is hard to see but the tanks are famous for wearing out the plastic sucked beerchug2.gif I dont think the sled could overheat in one mile

agreed, unless you warmed it up forever and the temp outside was warm too

warmed up for about 3-5 minutes and then blasted half throttle across the lake (1/2 mile there.. 1/2 mile back) and the temp light comes on and she is boiling! beerchug2.gif proceeded to drink black haus.

If it's overheating that fast you have a flow or pressure problem. Taking the t-stat out doesn't nessecarily chang anything. The t-stat is there to control the flow of coolant, It opens when hot and closes when cold. Taking it out could result in the coolant flowing too freely and never cooling in the exchanger. beerchug12.gif

i like that explanation! makes sense. so do you think that the vaccume line could be making a big difference?beerchug2.gif

Actually Ford has a Valid point here. You GOTTA get all the air out of the system for it to work properly. Here is the best proceedure for filling the cooling system.

Raise the front of the sled a foot or so off the ground.
Take off the thermostat cover and remove thermostat.
Fill the engine through the Thermo housing.
Once full, replace thermostat and cover and finish filling the rest of the system.
Now with the front raised in the air, start and warm up the engine the whole way.
Make sure all of the air is out of the system by leaving the Rad cap half hooked on( first notch ).
this process should take about 10 or 15 minutes.

Set her down and go for a ride.

To answer your question about the Vaccum line, NOT sure of the year you have, But if it has twin fuel pumps and three fittings, one of them needs to be blocked off. the other two can stay hooked to the vaccum lines of the pumps. And do not run it with other one open, good way to run it lean and blow it up.

gonna give that a try tonight. beerchug.gif got a new carb flange and oil injector line, and also going to plug off the 3rd vaccume line. hopefully this will all do the trick and i will have a riding partner once again. it sucks when my fathers sled don't run. he makes me feel bad and then i have to sit and fix it! beerchug.gif <good thing we both like to drink!

how much snow you got? let me know! my plans for cazenovia are falling through because of to much lake effect.

onto the sled! the thing is a fucking animal! i bow down to the thunderchicken! did everything you guys said. it runs perfectly! however, when you get on it for about a 1/8 - 1/4 mile the temp gauge comes on but goes off when you wash out the cylinder on the way back off it. air bound still? everything is tight, when i undo the cap i even get a hiss from the pressure. so it's holding. any thoughts????? or just fuck it and run what ya brung! beerchug2.gif

werd.gif dunno.gif your heat exchangers warm? is it circulating? doesn't make any sense how the fucker could get that hot in such a short time.
