We do in our area. And what is your question?

On a more light hearted note, we all know you have bats in your belfry, so you really should be the expert on such things.

Havent seen any yet this yr & readin bout they are dying off bigtime in caves during hibernation cuz of some fungus bs. We used to always have at least 2, & some times have up to 6. Thinkin bout gettin a bat house dunno.gif

Over 90% of the bats in our area died over the last year or two. That can't be a good thing. Way back in high school our entire senior class had a keg party in one of the local caves and it was full of bats. They acted funny when certain kinds of smoke filled the air. The same caves are mentioned in the news now that they are dying off.

Thought it was a local problem. Shame if it gets them all. Bees are in trouble too for some non-related reason.

A quote from a news source:

"More than 90 per cent of the 30,000 bats living in New Jersey's best known bat cave, the Hibernia Mine, have been killed by white nose syndrome, a mysterious disease devastating bat populations in the north-eastern US. Thought to be spread by a fungus, the syndrome has killed an estimated 400,000 bats since it emerged in 2006, says the US Fish and Wildlife Service."

No shit. My grandparents had a cottage in Three Mile Bay NY, near the 1000 Islands. Had some small ones there we used to crawl around in as kids. Did a rowboat tour through a bigger one somewhere up there. Down in Tennessee there's these monster caves they built wharehouses in do to the constant temp. Pretty cool you turn down the road into the industrial park and proceed to drive into the caves. Nothing like backing a 53' trailer to dock in a damn cave hillbilly.gif 0.gif Always have had some bats here I assume thy're still around dunno.gif

Day after I read this, I head out on the front lawn with the dog before dark and I have a dozen going in and out of this maple tree eating bugs. I can hear their teeth chattering as they chomp on them. Amazing critters.
